WHY WE FAST IN THIS SEASON...
The fall feasts are unique among the appointed times of the Lord. The lessons they teach form a natural progression of thought from repentance, to redemption to rejoicing. According to the Bible, the Biblical holiday of Rosh Hashanah, or the Feast of Trumpets, marks the beginning of a new year. Rosh Hashanah literally means “the head of year”. In relation to our calendar, the Feast of Trumpets begins at sundown on Friday, September 11. I believe that Rosh Hashanah signals a new year for the believer, a shift in our walk with Him, and an opportunity to know Him better. Rosh Hashanah marks a new beginning! We already know that the Jewish system of acts doesn’t work anymore (GRACE took its place!), but I will remind you that the Bible doesn’t say that God is Jewish - it says He is Spirit (“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”). His people were Jewish in Leviticus when He established His timetable, but when Jesus Christ came and died for us, you and I became His people. According to Genesis 3:29, if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
We have timed this 21 day fast to begin on Sunday, August 23rd at sundown and end on Sunday, September 13th at sundown. The theme for the 2026 fast is “Destiny Arising: Awaken. Align. Advance." As you enter this season, don’t approach it with the same mindset as years past. Challenge yourself. Stretch yourself. Make room for God to do something deeper. Don’t simply fast out of tradition; fast with expectation.
Week One: AWAKEN
Our prayer is that God would awaken our hearts to His voice and His purpose. We will focus on repentance, renewal, spiritual sensitivity, and hearing what the Holy Spirit is saying to us personally and corporately.
Week Two: ALIGN
As God awakens us, He begins aligning us. During this week, we will focus on surrender, obedience, holiness, and positioning ourselves for His will. Destiny is not discovered through ambition; it is revealed through alignment with God’s purpose.
Week Three: ADVANCE
Consecration is not the destination—it is the catalyst. As we conclude our fast, we will focus on faith, vision, legacy, and stepping boldly into the future God has prepared. We believe God is strengthening His Church today so that future generations can walk in His promises tomorrow.
This year, our concluding offering carries special significance. As a church family, we are launching our Legacy Campaign: Strengthen Today. Secure Tomorrow. Our prayer is that over the next two years, God will enable us to eliminate the remaining debt on our facilities through a unified effort of sacrificial generosity. Together, we are believing for $750,000 to be committed and given above and beyond our regular tithes and offerings.
The Legacy Offering is a two-year commitment to position our church for greater impact by eliminating debt, strengthening our financial foundation, and preparing for the opportunities God places before us. This campaign is about more than paying off a balance—it is about creating stability, expanding our capacity for ministry, and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. As we sacrifice together today, we are ensuring that tomorrow’s ministry can move forward with greater freedom, greater obedience, and greater effectiveness in reaching people with the Gospel.
We are asking 350 individuals to prayerfully consider making a Legacy commitment of $2,400 over the next two years, which can be fulfilled through a recurring gift of just $100 per month. Together, these commitments will help us remove debt, strengthen the ministry of Live Oak Church, and position future generations to follow God’s call without limitation. Through Legacy, we are investing in a future that will outlive us and impact generations to come.
